Ongoing EMS training, certification and skill development is available to match your schedule and interests. Find upcoming classes in your area.

Initial training as an EMS provider consists of a provider course. Once you have completed the certification level training course, the certification level you maintain will require a certain number of continuing education hours for recertification. See the certification levels below for more information.

A CPR for healthcare professionals certification should be obtained before beginning any of the following training courses. This certification takes just a couple of hours. Contact your closest EMS service to find out where you can get certified!

  • EMR
    The initial course is about 80 hours of training over several months. Recertification requires 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years after your initial certification.
  • EMT
    The initial EMT course is around 140 hours of training over several months. Recertification requires 72 hours of continuing education every 2 years after initial certification.
  • AEMT
    The AEMT course takes about 140 hours to complete and builds off of knowledge gained as an EMT. Recertification requires 72 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
  • Paramedic
    Paramedic certificate programs generally take 1 year to complete, and Associate degree programs can take up to 2 years. Recertification requires 72 continuing education hours or reexamination every 2 years.
